Cobra is the only one of the major radar detector manufacturers that is publicly held. Their original product line, CB radios, debuted over 40 years ago in the 1960s. In the 1970s they soon branched out into radar detectors as well and have further diversified in recent years into related lines like FRS radios, GPS navigation units and power inverters. With their focus on the middle range of the market, they have for quite some years been the largest of the radar detector manufacturers in terms of units sold. Although most of their actual manufacturing is done offshore, they have been headquartered for many years in Chicago. |
